Nike Pegasus
Nike's long-running everyday road trainer, and the default recommendation for a first pair for longer than most shoes have existed.
daily trainer
This suits you if
- You want one pair that handles easy runs, longer runs and the occasional faster session
- You are buying your first proper running shoe and want something unremarkable in the good sense
- You prefer a firmer, more responsive ride over maximum softness
About the versions
The Pegasus has been revised annually for decades and the numbering continues past forty. Foam, upper and fit have all changed substantially across that run, so a review of one version tells you little about the next. Treat the name as a category rather than a product.
The Pegasus is the shoe most often described as boring, which in a daily trainer is close to the highest compliment available. It does not specialise, and that is the point — for someone running a few times a week on roads it removes the need to make a decision.
Its weakness is the same as its strength. If you want plush maximum cushioning or a light racing feel, this is not built to give you either.
Nothing here can tell you whether a shoe fits your foot. Try it on, ideally run in it, and buy the pair that feels right rather than the one that reads well.
